KDE 3 is REWRITTEN FEATURE FOR FEATURE in Qt4 and FEATURE PARITY is achieved. What should have happened is what is KDE 4 is its own project off away from KDE. The idea that KDE 4 needed to be rewritten using Qt4 so it would be more current more maintainble and what resulted are NOT the same. the answer is "We decided to IGNORE and NOT LISTEN TO LONG TIME USERS and change just about everything in the DE, and if you don't like it, screw you, get lost?" If that is the case then it should be a NEW PROJECT and NOT KDE. Different strokes for different folks, though.Īrmornick wrote:But yes, if you guys dislike KDE4 that much, I guess you can go use Xfce and talk about 'the good old days'. I don't think it's nearly as bad as some people make it out to be, and it's probably not nearly as good as some people make it out to be! All I know is that I have different DEs and WMs installed here, and I enjoy when I log into KDE4 as much as any of the others, if not more. I really like it, but that doesn't mean other people will, or should.

I like what they did with Dolphin I actually use it now under GNOME and Openbox as well as under KDE4.īut, I'm not trying to sell anyone on KDE4. The web page linked below, I think, shows how useful all this stuff can be:Īlso, even though I've always liked Konqueror, I like the idea of using a dedicated file browser instead of a web browser/file browser. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's something that can be done in KDE 3.5. I think it's very helpful to be able to have different widgets showing up on different virtual desktops. You may not agree, and I can totally understand that, too. I personally only use one "activity," for the most part, but other people seem to enjoy making use of this feature, and I can see where it could be very helpful.

I think that many people find that using different "desktop activities" provide a nice way to perform multiple tasks. I realize we're stuck with KDE4-if not now, eventually-and I really want to see what benefit it has. wrote:MALsPa, I'm not being sarcastic, but in terms of actually getting work done (as opposed to spinning cubes) I'd love to know what functionality you mean.
